Setting up of string ensembles and orchestras is getting more popular in Singapore’s growing arts scene. The number of stringed instrument classes and students, as well as the demand for high quality yet affordable instrument maintenance and upkeep services, has increased in recent years.

AmberCraft Violins developed the ‘Instrument Upkeep Programme’ for local schools to:

• Educate young musicians on the necessity of proper maintenance of their instruments
• Provide a one-stop repair and maintenance service for the convenience of students, parents and teachers

Instrument upkeep stresses proper setting up of the instrument for:

• Easy playability
• Correct bridge height
• Lower nut and saddle
• Smooth turning of pegs
• Better tone
• Adjusting the string length/tailpiece ratio to achieve a more powerful sound often found lacking in entry-level instruments
• Soundpost adjustment

As stringed instruments are recommended to be checked and serviced twice a year, the school orchestra/string ensemble can arrange for on-site visit of our luthier at AmberCraft Violins to the school premise at appropriate intervals in the year for maintenance of the students’ instruments.
